The ZRS 2000 Bed Knife is the stationary cutting component — also referred to as a stator knife — for the Virtus Equipment and ZERMA America ZRS 2000 Pipe and Profile Shredder. The ZRS 2000 uses a very large-diameter flat E-type rotor with specially machined pockets that hold and secure knife holders fitted with square rotor knives. The bed knives provide the fixed cutting edge in the machine housing that works in close opposition with the rotating rotor knives to shear and tear large-diameter HDPE, PP, and PVC pipes, pipe bundles, plastic profiles, lumps, and other bulky plastic material. The ZRS 2000 preventive maintenance kit specifies five bed knives per machine. Cutting performance and knife service life are both highly dependent on maintaining the correct cutting gap between the bed knives and the rotor knives — always use the correct pushing and pulling adjusting bolt pairs when resetting the knife gap after each rotation or replacement cycle. Manufactured from D2 tool steel (1.2379), a high-chromium cold work tool steel vacuum heat-treated to 58 to 62 HRC for the combination of hardness, wear resistance, and toughness required in high-impact shredder applications. Replace all bed knives as a complete set when worn, and always re-index or replace rotor knives at the same service interval to maintain consistent cutting geometry across the full width of the cutting chamber.
