Some scrap is not especially hard to cut, it is just big and bulky. IBCs, wheelie bins, plastic pallets, large drums, these are voluminous parts that take up an enormous amount of space relative to the actual plastic in them. The challenge is not torque, it is room. A shredder needs a big enough cutting chamber to swallow the part and enough feed volume to keep it moving. That is what the V-Series is built to do.

The V-Series is a big volume industrial shredder, a high-capacity single-shaft machine designed around a large internal volume so it can take the bulky parts that would overwhelm a standard shredder’s chamber.

This is the sixth post in our shredder series, covering every shredder we build and who each one is for. It follows the G-Series general purpose shredder. This one is the answer when the parts are simply too big for a standard machine.

More room where it counts

The headline feature of the V-Series is space. The redesigned hydraulic pusher system creates approximately 35% more space in the cutting chamber compared to a standard model, while at the same time increasing the power and the ram speed. That internal ram design is clever: it grows the usable cutting volume without growing the machine’s footprint, which is what makes the V-Series ideal for big voluminous parts without demanding a proportionally bigger floor space.

Under the hood, the V-Series shares the proven Virtus platform. It is equipped with a 457 mm diameter E-type rotor in widths from 1200 mm to 2000 mm, and, as on the G-Series, the rotor is driven by an oversized gearbox for high torque. A completely enclosed welded steel housing adds stability and prevents material spillage, which matters when you are feeding bulky parts that want to bounce and scatter.

The same trusted internals

The V-Series is not an exotic machine, it is the dependable Virtus shredder platform sized for volume. It carries all the traditional advantages of the Virtus knife and knife holder design, plus the standard features you want on any serious shredder: outboard bearings that keep contamination away from the bearings, a hydraulic screen cradle for quick output size changes, easy maintainability, and advanced controls. The concave ground square knives produce high-quality output and can be rotated after one side wears, and the large diameter flat rotor has specially machined pockets that hold and secure the knives. As with every Virtus shredder, a wear package with weld-on hard facing is available for processing highly abrasive or filled materials.

What it shreds and who needs one

Recyclers handling bulky containers. The V-Series was designed to handle voluminous parts such as IBCs, wheelie bins, pallets, and large drums. If your incoming stream is dominated by big hollow or bulky items, this is the machine built for it.

High-volume post-consumer and plastics operations. The extra chamber space and faster, more powerful ram translate to throughput, which makes the V-Series a strong fit for general recycling in the post-consumer waste and plastics industry when volume is the priority.

Operations that also want versatility. While it is built for big volume, the V-Series retains the flexibility to be used for general recycling in the plastic and wood industries, so it is not a one-trick machine. It handles a wide range of materials including plastics, wood, rubber, and bulky waste, and with optional wear packages, abrasive or filled materials too.
